Announcement bar
*Important when updating to Whisk 10.0.0 from version 9.0.0 or earlier
As of v10.0.0, Whisk now has the option to include multiple announcements! This change moves the area where you add announcement text from a setting in the section, to blocks within the section and each block is it's own announcement. If you are updating from an earlier version of the theme, you should update the section to place your announcement text in a block.
The announcement bar is a place where you can advertise store specials. It's a thin bar of text that sits above the site header on all pages. Here are the options for configuring it.
Background
Choose a background for the announcement bar. If you don't want it to be a gradient, choose the same color as both options for the gradient, and that will create a solid color.
Font color
Color of the text. Make sure you choose a color that has a good contrast against the background so it remains legible.
Font style
Choose from the heading or the body font.
Text size
(Whisk 5.0.0 and greater)
Choose from the heading or the body font.
Make font bold
Emphasize the text more by making it bold.
Animation style
(Whisk 10.0.0 and greater)
Choose between showing different blocks in a slideshow or a marquee scroll. The slideshow option will only work if there is more than one block, but the marquee will work with any number of announcement blocks.
Slideshow settings
Show next slide every
The time in seconds each slide remains in view.
Transition style
Choose between a traditional slide animation or a fade between slides.
Slide transition speed
The amount of time in seconds for the transition between slides will take.
Show navigation arrows
Enable this checkbox to show arrows on each end of the announcement bar to allow visitors to navigate between slides.
Marquee settings
Available in Whisk versions 4.3.0 and greater
Enable marquee scroll
Check this box to add a marquee scroll to the announcement bar text
Scroll speed
Adjust this slider to find the best scrolling speed for your text. The speed differs based on how long the text is.
Space between marquee items
(Whisk 5.0.0 and greater)
Adjust this slider to increase or decrease spacing between each marquee item
Scroll direction
(Whisk 10.0.0 and greater)
Choose whether you want to scroll to start from the left or the right side of the browser window.
Legacy Settings
Any blocks will override what is entered below. This was left here to prevent as many stores as possible from having a breaking change when they upgrade to the new theme version where announcements are stored in blocks. You should move any information that is here into a block to take advantage of the new features. If there are any blocks in the theme, it will override whatever is added here.
Text
The copy that you want to display in the announcement bar. Keep it short and sweet.
Link
This is optional. An example use case: you are announcing a new product for sale, you could add the link to that product here.
Section spacing
Adjust the top and bottom padding within the section.
